When I saw the headlines about a death of an intern, I was in complete awe and shock. It is believed that the cause of death is sleep deprivation, and it’s unfortunate that this kid was only 21. I really hate the fact that it is currently an “Employer’s Market”. Everyday, I get the “be thankful you have a job” spiel. Because of this economy, it gives management (especially mine) the ability to abuse their power, make everyone do all the work for a small check (and in some cases such as an intern, NO CHECK).
My condolences to his family.
Interns are really indentured servants with a different name. This young man was likely trying to work really hard as intern so he could get a regular position at Bank of America, or somewhere else. He was overworked and it’s tragic.
